Calculating Geozones

From Statistics Canada's Health Reports: Geozones: An area-based method for analysis of health outcomes

"Geozones is based on population proportions and the comparison of different populations within specified areas, the results of which are used to create a typology of population concentration for a given level of geographic aggregation."

2011 Census - population data released

New Envirostats - Temperature trends in Canada

From Statistics Canada: Temperature trends in Canada (1949 - 2009)
"Analysis of seasonal national mean temperature departures from normal shows that mean winter and spring temperatures got milder over the study period with these trends showing increases of 2.4°C and 1.8°C over the past 62 years."

Fall 2010 issue of EnviroStats available

Included in this issue:
Trends in glacier mass balance for six Canadian glaciers.
"The six glaciers studied for this article experienced statistically significant reductions in their mass over the length of the data series. The major difference between the two regional groups of glaciers was the rate of mass loss, with the glaciers in the Western Cordillera losing mass at a faster rate than those in the High Arctic" (from summary section).

"As of 2009, small businesses employed approximately 5 million individuals in Canada, or 48 percent of the total labour force in the private sector."

New report from Statistics Canada: Health-promoting factors and good health among Canadians in mid-to-late life

The July 2010 issue of Health Reports has been released. Contents include:

* Health-promoting factors and good health among Canadians in mid-to-late life
* Validation of self-rated mental health

New crime statistics available

From Statistics Canada's The Daily: Police reported crime is falling. This includes violent crime, as well as property crime and less serious offenses. Impaired driving offenses are one area that increased - 3% in 2009.

IMF has a new financial access indicators database

Recently the IMF made a new database available. The database is the result of a comprehensive international financial access survey.
